About X360 Gamescores

For a long time, I don’t give any thoughts about Xbox 360 Gamescores. Previously when I played, once in a while it would pop up and I simply ignored it. Ok, so I gain an achievement, so what? Not until I signed up my gamertag at mygamercard.net. Now, new thing slams into my face left and right: leaderboard, completion %, world ranking, etc. What? I am so low ranked? Of course you dork, you never care about the gamescores (that’s my x360 answering). Since then, I am really pump up to raise my ranking. But it is not as easy as it seen. Some games require you to complete mission in super hard mode. Before, I always starts medium mode to enjoy the fun without dying too many times, but now, I jump right to veteran mode in Call of Duty: World at War and dying like nobody business :)

After few weeks being pump up, I felt torn… between my before or after way of playing. My before, which doesn’t really care about the gamescore, is more fun, compare to the after when I felt frustrated of dying too many times. My before, where I can spend hours and hours exploring (eg, Fallout 3′s wasteland) compare to my after, a hurried way to finish the game to gain gamescores. It’s like you don’t really enjoy the game, you finish the game just to get the 100% achievements. In Fallout 3 for example, you gain gamescore when you reach 3 levels as either bad, neutral or good character. If you really playing the game, you can only be one type of character. But if you play just for the sake of achievements, you will save just before you gain the achievement. Then play as one type, gain the achievement, reload and play as the other 2 types. This really isn’t playing the game anymore.

So, what’s the pro of after then? I would say it is the satisfaction feeling when I see my gamescore counter increasing, which also means my rank in the x360 world.

Looking back at all the games I played before, I don’t have one 100% achivement, or 1000 gamescore. Still feeling pumped up, I choose Tenchu Z as my first game to reach the 1000 gamescore.
